Why do we need to do annual fundraising?

To build the beautiful, multi-functional campus you see today, Mountain Island Charter School and The Soar Foundation secured $31.5 million in educational bonds that come to term over 35 years. Our annual mortgage payment is close to $2 Million. Because charter schools do not receive capital funds, MICS must dip into operating costs to pay these building expenses, taking money away from classroom support. The Soar Foundation is tasked with fundraising to offset these underfunded expenses of our charter school. Since we are a volunteer-run operation, 100% of raised funds go directly to supporting the school and the foundation. We hope you will reflect on your personal giving capacity and consider a donation this year.

As our campus ages, we continue to both spend and save for necessary repairs and maintenance. For example, this summer we have incurred significant expenses with roof repairs and addressed water drainage issues. In a huge upgrade, new state-of-the-art turf was laid at Raptor Stadium and baseball/softball infields, which will provide enhanced safety for our athletes and students.

Finally the Soar Foundation works with the amazing MICS PTO to foster community for staff, students, and parents. We financially support community events ranging from elementary movie night, fall festival, book fairs, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Top Golf Event, and staff appreciation luncheons and events. Together, we build and support the strength and spirit of Raptor Nation.
